We’re thrilled to share the highlights of our recent community service project, led by our passionate youth leaders, as we took a dynamic and fun approach to combat climate change. Our BRAVE Ambassadors participated in a productive workshop on Environment Day. During this workshop, they formed steering committees and engaged in thoughtful discussions to strategize and execute a meaningful initiative – I AM BRAVE Enough to combat climate change.
With a shared vision of promoting zero waste and sustainable living, the Ambassadors collectively decided to organize a clothes and book swap event. This choice aligned perfectly with our goal of raising awareness about the environmental impact of fast fashion while encouraging the adoption of more conscious consumer habits.
We carefully selected Menchaca Library as the venue and our dedicated youth ambassadors set the stage by transforming the meeting room into a hub of energy and creativity. The setup showcased an array of clothing, snacks, and informative materials about BRAVE’s mission. All clothes were carefully categorized by size and an additional table was set up specifically for accessories, shoes, and books.
A dedicated portion of the space was reserved for an info pool, designed to provide an engaging and immersive experience. By simply scanning a QR code, participants were able to generate an image that they could share, post on social media, or further educate themselves about the importance of combating climate change.
The clothing swap was met with enthusiasm, as attendees actively exchanged items, finding new treasures to take home, and have fun on the selfie station. Left-over clothes were given to under resourced communities – the event was able to pull together six huge bags of clothes to SAFE Austin!
This achievement reflects the immense dedication and commitment of our community’s young change-makers. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to everyone involved in making this event a resounding success. Together, we’ve showcased the power of youth leadership in combating climate change while having an absolute blast!
