What is TechGirls?

TechGirls is an international summer exchange program designed to empower and inspire 126 young women (ages 15-17) from 36 countries and territories from the following regions: South and Central Asia, East Asia Pacific, Europe and Eurasia, Middle East and North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Western Hemisphere to pursue careers in STEM.

TechGirls participate in a 3-week program during the month of July. TechGirls receive 40 hours of instruction in STEM foundational courses. They also have the chance to visit labs to learn about groundbreaking research. The whole experience opens up great awareness of academic and career paths.

After the program, TechGirls implement community-based projects to transfer skills and knowledge back home.

City Experience In Austin

BRAVE Communities is hosting an inspiring cohort of 21 TechGirls hailing from Cambodia, Fiji, Indonesia, Mongolia, Taiwan, and the USA, from July 26th – 31, 2024.

We are seeking Homestay Hosts in the greater Austin area for the TechGirls from July 26-31. It is a fun and memorable cross-cultural experience for all parties involved.

BRAVE Communities is excited to partner with Legacy International and the U.S. Department of State to host 21 teens from the East Asia Pacific (EAP) and the United States, IN PERSON, with the purpose to empower and inspire young girls to pursue careers in STEM. Participants will be in Austin July 26-31 and visiting local organizations July 29th & 30th.

Here are some key details about the TechGirls Homestay hosting opportunity:

Accommodations

Hosts must be able to provide a private bed, comfortable futon, or bunk. Participants may share a bedroom with another TechGirl or female homestay host.

Hosts typically share breakfast and dinner, either at home or dining out, with participants joining them. Each host will receive a $100 HEB gift card for every participant they accommodate.

Hosts have the option to offer transportation to and from meeting spots or visits to their hosting organizations. If you’re unable to drop off or pick up your participant(s) for any of the scheduled programming, we’ll arrange a rideshare or carpool as needed.

Ideal hosts are families with or without children and/or pets, retirees, or singles in the greater Austin area. They must be able to provide a good environment for the participant(s) to enjoy their time in Austin, including a variety of activities.

Hosts must undergo a criminal background check for every household member aged 18 and older who resides under the same roof during July 26-31. Specific details will be shared with those confirmed for hosting.

All Homestay Hosts will have VIP status at our 2024 BRAVE Fest on Sunday, July 28th, 2-6pm at Antone’s.
